Here’s a story about Haywood Hall.
Haywood Hall is a historical site in downtown Raleigh. Built somewhere between 1799 to 1801, it has the distinction of being the oldest house within the original city limits remaining on its original foundation. It houses period furnishings and is open for tours on certain days of the week. You can also rent it out for weddings, parties, and whatnot.
A couple of years ago, a friend of mine and his family attended an event on the grounds. His three – year – old son had to go the restroom, so they went to the facilities inside the Hall. While inside, his son grew whiny and fretful.
“We have to go, daddy,” he whined. “We have to go now.”
“Okay, okay.” His father carried him outside. “What’s going on, buddy?”
His son shook his head and refused to say anything else. A few minutes later, he was back to running and playing with the other children, the whole incident forgotten.
Later that evening, when his father was tucking him into bed, his son asked about the house. “Who lives in that house?”
“Nobody,” his father replied. “It’s a museum.”
His son grew quiet. “Then who were the people there?”
As far as his father knew, they had been the only ones inside. “People? What people?”
“The people in the house.” His son got a far off look. “They didn’t like us in their house.”
Freaky, right? Every time I pass Haywood Hall, I think about that.
They didn’t like us in their house.

It sounds like a premise for a movie. That last sentence gives me shivers as well.

We still laugh about it, in a nervous way. Who knows what he saw. It’s been a few years, and he doesn’t remember it at all. We do…

Hey Fellow Raleighite!
Following you now, just because we share a city. (and it’s relatively new to me.) I’ll come back and have a look at your overall blog when I’m done with browsing the entries for WPC.
I do love this photo and (especially) this story.

Great day we’re having, right? Somebody scared away spring. If it doesn’t come back, I’m going to have to go find it.
