Duke Forest. Last Summer.
Another Duke Forest picture from last summer… I spend a lot of time in Duke Forest. 🙂
I have no idea what this plant is. I was fairly sure that if I got any closer to it, it might eat me.
Leaves and trees here… and yes, Duke Forest.
Since I talk so much about Duke Forest, allow me to tell you more about it. Duke Forest is part of Duke University and consists of over 7,000 acres of forested land in Durham, Orange, and Alamance counties. Basically, it’s an outdoor laboratory. The school uses it for a number of their academic programs.
It’s amazing what you’ll find there. I stumbled upon a cemetery once. I couldn’t find it again, which made me wonder if it had ever existed at all. It’s easy to get turned around. There’s a distinct Blair Witchy feel, but at the same time, there’s nothing like walking in the woods.
I used to live down the street from it. It’s a a magical place. Expect more pictures.

It’s wonderful. Because it’s a private forest it’s pretty raw… no safety rails, handholds, things like that. It’s a little dangerous, but so is driving. Now I live too far away to enjoy it like I did, but I will make sure to go at least twice a year!
